Proxy farming means killing the enemy minion waves behind their towers, often between their first and second tower, before those waves reach your lane. It denies the enemy farm, pulls players away from the rest of the map, and lets you avoid a lane you would lose. It works on champions with fast wave clear and a good escape, and it is risky against a team that can surround you.

1. What proxy farming does
When you kill the enemy waves before they reach the lane, your opponent has nothing to farm and has to come after you. That pulls one or more enemies toward you and gives your team space everywhere else.
Walking through the enemy jungle on the way also shows you where their jungler is and which camps are up.
2. Which champions can proxy
Proxy farming needs fast wave clear, good movement and a way out of a fight. Singed is the best known example, and some other top laners and junglers with strong wave clear use it too.
A champion without an escape will be caught under the enemy towers, and every death there undoes the gold you gained.
3. When to proxy
Proxy when your lane is unplayable, when you want to pull enemies away from an objective your team is taking, or when you know the enemy jungler is on the other side of the map.
4. Do not forget your own wave
While you farm behind their tower, your own minions keep walking, and the enemy waves you did not catch push into your tower.
Keep track of both waves, and go back to defend when your tower is about to lose a lot.
5. When to stop
Stop when two or more enemies come for you, when the enemy jungler is missing and you have no vision, or when your team needs you at an objective.
The pressure only helps if your team uses it. If nobody takes anything while the enemy chases you, go back to normal farming.
Check what your proxy gave your team
When you try proxy farming, watch the replay. How many enemies came for you, and what did your team take in that time?
If your team gained nothing while you were chased, the proxy did not help. Try it again when your team can use the space.
Practice proxy farming
Proxy farm is one of the 51 patterns on the MOBA Trainer Pattern Map. It has a video explanation from a coach and training puzzles built from real game situations: you see the map, choose what to do, and learn why the best players choose differently. The puzzles ask whether a proxy is worth it, with the waves, the enemy jungler and your team on the map.
Frequently asked questions
- What is proxy farming in League of Legends?
- Farming the enemy minion waves behind their towers, often between their first and second tower, before they reach the lane. It denies the enemy farm, pulls enemies away from the rest of the map and lets you avoid a hard lane.
- Which champions are good at proxy farming?
- Champions with fast wave clear, good movement and an escape. Singed is the best known example; some other top laners and junglers with strong wave clear also use it.
- Is proxy farming good in solo queue?
- It can be, on the right champion, but it works best when your team uses the pressure. In solo queue, proxy when the gain does not depend only on your teammates, for example to escape a lane you would lose or to deny farm.
- How can I practice proxy farming?
- Check what your proxies gave your team in replays, and train the decision with MOBA Trainer puzzles for the Proxy farm pattern, where you choose whether to proxy in real game situations.
- Is MOBA Trainer free?
- The daily puzzle and the first lesson are free. The full campaign with every pattern is part of the Season Pass. MOBA Trainer runs on Windows, macOS, iPhone and Android, plus the web app and the Discord bot.
