Teamfighting well comes down to three things: know what your team composition is built to do, stand in the right place for your role, and hit the right targets. A team with strong engage wants to start the fight on its terms, a poke team wants to wear the enemy down before anyone engages, and a team built to protect its carry wants the enemy to come to them. Play the fight your composition is built for, not the one the enemy wants.

1. Know your composition
Look at your team in loading screen and ask what it does best. Engage compositions have champions who start fights from range. Poke compositions deal damage from far away before the fight starts. Protect compositions keep one strong carry alive. Pick compositions catch single targets.
The enemy team has a plan too. Most fights are won by the team that forces its own plan on the other.
2. Play your role in the fight
Engagers start the fight on the right target at the right time. Frontliners take the enemy's abilities. Carries deal damage from safety for as long as possible. Peelers protect the carries.
A fight goes wrong when someone plays a job that isn't theirs, like a carry starting the fight or a tank walking away from their team.
3. Wait for the key ability
Many fights turn on one ability: the enemy's big engage ultimate, your own team's crowd control, a flash engage. If you play a carry, wait for the enemy's engage to be used before you walk forward. If you play an engager, wait until the enemy has used their escape or protection.
Patience at the start of a fight is often what wins it.
4. Fight where your composition is strong
Some compositions are strong in narrow jungle paths, where area abilities hit everyone. Others are strong in open lanes, where carries can kite and poke.
If you can, choose where the fight happens: pull the enemy into the ground that suits you, or move the fight to it.
5. Know what to do after the fight
A won teamfight is a chance to take dragon, Baron, towers or an inhibitor. Decide right away what to take, and don't chase the last enemy into their base for a kill.
If you lose the fight, back off to safety and clear their waves instead of fighting again a player down.
Review one teamfight per game
Pick the biggest fight in a replay and watch it at slow speed. Who started it, who did each player hit, and who died first?
Then compare it with what your composition wanted. Most lost fights are fights played on the enemy's terms.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I teamfight better as an ADC?
- Stay behind your frontline, hit the closest enemy you can hit safely, and wait for the enemy's engage abilities to be used before you move forward.
- Why do we lose teamfights when we are ahead?
- Often because the fight is taken on the enemy's terms: in a place that suits their composition, while key members of your team are not there, or with damage spread over the wrong targets.
- What is a team composition in League?
- It is the mix of champions on a team and what they are good at together, for example engage, poke, protecting a carry or catching single targets.
- How do I teamfight in solo queue?
- Stay close to your team before objectives, follow the first engage, and focus the target your team is hitting. Pings help your team see the fight coming.
- Is MOBA Trainer free?
- The daily puzzle and the first lesson are free. The full campaign with every pattern is part of the Season Pass, at $9.99 a month or $69.99 a year. MOBA Trainer runs on Windows, macOS, iPhone and Android, in the web app and as the Discord bot Moti, in 12 languages.
