Jungling is mostly about decisions, not mechanics: where to clear, which lane to gank, when to take an objective and where the enemy jungler is. Good junglers plan their clear around the lanes that can win, gank when the wave and the lane allow it, and arrive at every objective first with vision. Track the enemy jungler, and you can answer their plays instead of guessing.

1. Plan your clear around the lanes
Your first clear decides where you are when the lanes first have a chance to fight. Start on the side that sends you toward the lanes that can win, or toward the objective you want.
Before the game starts, look at the matchups. Choose the side you want to play toward, and clear so you arrive there when those lanes can use you.
2. Gank lanes that can win the fight
A gank needs more than a target. It needs a lane that has crowd control or damage, an enemy pushed up without vision, and a wave that does not pull your laner away.
Gank when the enemy is pushed toward your side, when your laner can follow, and when their Flash or escape is down. If none of that is true, farm or take something else instead.
3. Track the enemy jungler
Every gank you predict is a gank you can stop or punish. The enemy jungler's first appearance tells you which side they started on, and their clear speed tells you where they will be next.
Keep a rough count of their camps. When you know they are on the other side, take your objective or invade; when they are near you, be ready to help your lane.
4. Use lane priority
Lane priority means your laners can push their wave and move first. A jungler with priority in mid and bot can invade, take scuttle crab or start a dragon safely.
Play toward the lanes that are winning their waves. Contest camps and objectives on the side where your laners can follow you, not the side where they are stuck under tower.
5. Set up objectives early
Dragon, Herald, Voidgrubs and Baron are usually decided before they are taken. The team that arrives first, with vision and the waves pushed, has the advantage.
Plan your recall so you are back with your items before the objective spawns. Ask your lanes to push, place vision around the pit and clear enemy wards first.
6. Invade at the right time
Taking enemy camps slows the enemy jungler and gains you gold, but an invade without lane priority is how junglers die.
Invade when you know where the enemy jungler is, and when your nearby laners can move with you. If they can't, take your own camps instead.
7. Choose the objective that matters most
Junglers decide what the team plays for. Sometimes the best move is a dragon, sometimes a tower, sometimes simply farming camps while the enemy jungler makes a play you cannot stop.
When the enemy jungler shows on one side, look at what you can take on the other side. Trading objectives across the map often beats contesting a fight you cannot win.
Review your pathing, not just your ganks
After a game, watch your first two clears in the replay. Where were you when your lanes needed help, and where was the enemy jungler?
Then look at each objective. Did your team arrive first, with vision? One or two habits will repeat; fix those before anything else.
Practice jungle decisions, not just your clear
Every fix on this page is a decision you can practice. MOBA Trainer has its own campaign path for each role: pick Jungle and the lessons and puzzles show real game situations from a Jungle player's view. You see the map, choose what to do, then learn why the best players choose differently. Each pattern above also has a coach video and puzzles on the Pattern Map.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I get better at jungling?
- Plan your clear around the lanes that can win, gank only when the wave and the lane allow it, track the enemy jungler, and set up objectives early with vision. Then review your pathing after each game and practice the decisions you get wrong.
- Which lane should I gank as a jungler?
- The lane that can follow with damage or crowd control, where the enemy is pushed toward your side without vision, and ideally where their Flash or escape is down. A lane that can win the fight is worth more than the lane that asks the loudest.
- How do I track the enemy jungler?
- Note where they first show up and which side they started, then count their camps to guess where they will be next. Each time they appear on the map, update your guess and tell your lanes.
- How can I practice jungling?
- Review your clears and objectives after each game, then practice the decision behind them. MOBA Trainer has a jungle path in its campaign with puzzles about clears, ganks, invades and objectives.
- Is MOBA Trainer free?
- The daily puzzle and the first lesson are free. The full campaign with every pattern is part of the Season Pass. MOBA Trainer runs on Windows, macOS, iPhone and Android, in the web app and in Discord through the Moti bot.
